Treating acute injuries in Munich
After an injury during sport or in everyday life, Dr. Schettle, specialist in orthopaedics and trauma surgery, examines you personally. At our private orthopaedic practice in Munich-Altperlach, he establishes what kind of injury you have and which treatment makes sense. The aim is to relieve your pain and to restore mobility and load-bearing capacity, without surgery wherever possible.
If you have a recent injury, please call us to arrange an appointment.
How is an injury examined?
Dr. Schettle asks how the injury happened and which movements have been painful since. He then checks the swelling, mobility and stability of the joint.
Depending on the findings, ultrasound, X-ray or MRI follow. The radiology practice is in the same building, so the injury can be assessed precisely without long journeys.

Common injuries at a glance
Twisted ankle
Sprained or torn ligaments in the ankle, often after a misstep.
Twisted knee
Injuries to the ligaments or meniscus, frequently in ball sports or skiing.
Shoulder injuries
Bruises, strains or dislocated shoulders after a fall, for example when cycling or horse riding. A freshly dislocated shoulder requires immediate medical care.
Elbow injuries
Bruises and ligament injuries after falling onto the arm.
Muscle injuries
Strains and torn muscle fibres caused by sudden strain during sport.
Restoring mobility, without surgery wherever possible
Many injuries to the musculoskeletal system can be treated conservatively, that is without surgery. What matters is the type and severity of the injury as well as your personal circumstances. Pre-existing conditions and possible surgical risks are also taken into account in the decision.
Depending on the findings, treatment may include temporary offloading, stabilisation with an orthosis and measures to relieve pain. Tailored exercises and physiotherapy help you to rebuild mobility, strength and stability.
Dr. Schettle discusses with you how much load you may put on the injured area and when it makes sense to return to everyday life and sport. If surgery is required, he refers you to a suitable specialist from his network.
